Video marketing is a scary world to get in for the average business owner. There’s a lot going on behind each and every video, so it’s quite intimidating for any person to do it. Even then, there’s a few myths out there that ought to be busted when it comes to making videos and using them in your digital marketing campaign. You’ll be surprised how easy most of them are.
Marketing Videos are Expensive
If you’ve been seeing a lot of Game of Thrones, The Big Bang Theory and any high-production cable TV, you might be leaning on the idea that your videos should be TV-ready and cost you a ton of money.
Not only is this wrong but easy to work out. Whilst many vids require you to put some time and work into them, they don’t have to cost you too much money. The truth of the matter is that in this world where influencers are sprinkled left and right, all you need is to be educational and authentic.
It does not matter how much money you pour into a video. Even if you have screen recording of a Powerpoint slide show with your expert voice over, some slides or even you and a whiteboard with a camera phone, what’s important is you engage with your audience.
Video Production is Not For You
If you don’t have any experience making a lot of videos, you’ll find yourself thinking that video production is not your forte. Making scripts, making production prep, creating storyboards, buying equipment, paraphernalia… that’s just too much, especially for a small business owner such as you.
You don’t need any of that, actually. If you’re looking into making videos for your digital marketing campaign, all you need is what you know and be an expert in your field. Here’s a neat trick that you can do.
Create a list of topics that are related to your website or product that you want to make content of. Once you do so, choose one and create a bigger list of things you can discuss with that topic. If you’re unsure of the questions that people are interested with, there’s an even easier way to do this.
Go to Q&A sites like Quora and Yahoo Answers, get to a category or search for questions regarding your niche and use that as your topic of the day. You only need to introduce yourself and start talking like an expert.
Videos Should Have 100% Flawless Speech
A lot of people think that you need to have a smooth jazzy Morgan Freeman voice or a level of eloquence akin to a Youtube superstar. You’ll be glad when I tell you that you don’t need to be extremely eloquent when doing your marketing videos. All you need is to be easily understandable and sound like you know what you’re talking about.
I’ve been in many webinars and there are people out there who just fire up their screencasting software, talk something related for a while and tangent like there no tomorrow whilst earning 2000 US Dollars just to be in their exclusive club. Don’t be like them. Whilst you would want to be as straight cut as possible, you do need to be relatable and sound conversational.
Invest in a good mid-range microphone for the time being, and then move on to more professional equipment once you get more people to engage with you. People watch your digital marketing videos to get your expert advice, so a great, crisp audio is important.
If you’re afraid of tangency too much, create an outline of what you want to talk about. Just enumerate small talking points and work them out as you speak. You can also create a storyboard to help with engagement if you have extra time. It’s not that hard.
